Tony Smith's Tribute To Mrs. Holmes

I wish to say a BIG THANK YOU for laying the foundation for me, you were my first English teacher and house mistress; although my stay in Musgrave was a short one as I was transferred to Hardie.

I recall my first English class whereby we were told to write our A.B.C. my initial reaction was that I was not a baby but a 11 year old young man and I know my A.B. C. hence I could not see the importance of the exercise. On completion of this assignment and submitting my exercise book for you to evaluate, to my shock you made a note to the effect that " I guess I will have to teach you your A. B. C.” I had left out one letter of the alphabet. This was a lesson that I will never forget. Always double check, never take anything for granted.

I also recall you introducing us to "Power Builders" and you saying, "Never ever, ever mark a Power Builder cause if you ever, ever mark a Power Builder it's an unforgivable sin".
Your boys meant the world to you. As you sail off in your sunset years I wish you joy and happiness, on behalf of the boys of 1972, Mrs. Holmes we say a BIG THANK YOU

Raymond AndersonGreat memory Tony. I do remember her saying that. It was her words to me in 1st form that changed the direction of my life. After reading something I wrote she said "Anderson you are going to be a scholar". No one had ever said that to me before and it changed how I saw myself and my work. To this day I also search for another word than "got" as she hated that word.https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v2/yp/r/aeO1ik7i7-T.png); background-size: auto; background-position: 0px -5287px; background-repeat: no-repeat;">
