Dance to the Moon Light Rhythm

God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; - Genesis 1:16

A month is the length of the natural period related to the cycles of the Moon.

Yet the Moon itself remains a mystery. Although we may know the revolution of the moon about the earth takes a month little is truly known about how it impacts our lives, influences our emotions and affects our connection to each other.

The moon affects all our energies, as well as the tides. The moon’s tidal pull stabilizes Earth’s rotation and the tides, promoting the formation of ocean currents that shape our climate.

It is the brightest object in our night sky with a light is that is entirely reflective of the Sun’s. The lunar phases are an essential part of the dance with the suns’ light being echoed in the moon.

"It shall be established forever like the moon, and the witness in the sky is faithful." Selah. Psalm 89:37

Wherever we are in the world we all see the same moon, yet how easy it is for us as city dwellers with so much street light interference to lose sight of this heavenly body. I thought perhaps it’s worth taking a little time to reflect on the luminescent moon given how much it impacts us.

The phases of the moon during its 29.5 day full lunation cycle

"Let the waters settle and you will see the moon and stars mirrored in your own being." --Rumi

The moon is a symbol of the feminine psyche with its visible 28 day lunation cycle being identical to that of a woman’s menstrual cycle. In fact the Latin word “menses “means month.

Life is given through blood, and a woman’s biological natural cycles harmonises with the moon. A woman ovulates at day 14 just as the moon becomes full on the 14th day after New moon. This simple correlation confirms we are integrated with nature in deeply interconnected ways that impacts even the blood flowing through our bodies. Let’s embrace our harmony with the larger whole.

Some say the Moon governs and heightens feminine intuition and deeper feelings but for me it’s a fundamental heavenly body setting the very rhythm and patterns of our lives, male and female. I’m suggesting we consciously recognise and utilise its potent power. Working with the moon’s cycles allows us to go with the natural flow of the cosmos.

Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for light by day And the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night - Jeremiah 31:35

4 Key moon phases (each of 7 days /1 week approx.)

New Moon – Start Projects

The first light of the moon reveals what was previously hidden making it a great time for setting intentions and kick-starting something new. Ideas given “birth” at this time should develop slowly and incrementally similar to the moon itself, starting out small and growing steadily to completion.

Waxing – Overcome Challenges

Any new endeavour is bound to encounter challenges, obstacles and issues. This phase of the moon aids this process of refinement and re-evaluation to navigate the best path to move ahead.

Full MoonExpect results

When the moon is full it opposes the life-giving Sun. This powerful opposition can bring about new insight and a different perspective to issues as the full moon is literally shining a bright light to reveal deeper truths. However as our energies are at a peak and running high there’s also potential for “lunacy” so be careful to tread lightly during this time.

WaningLearning from mistakes

In this phase the moon’s light diminishes, it allows us to bring this cycle to a close, tying up loose ends, reviewing the month’s efforts to establish what worked best and what could be done differently. In these darker nights it’s time for winding down to prepare for the new cycle that begins in the new month ahead.

So there we have it! The four key cycles of our intimate connection between the Moon, the Earth and ourselves. Every New Moon brings a chance to start all over again in a different part of our life.

As part of the creative Cosmos we can consciously integrate with this key celestial body, the moon and also come to intimately know the Creator within.
