The Dead are not Dead

Modern Science supports Biblical view:

The Dead are not dead

Why is so little known about what happens when we physically die?

Death is integral to life and none of us remain untouched by this process. The difficult truth of life and death has proved eternally elusive to both religion & science as neither has conclusively brought this dark matter into the light of day for all to know the truth of what happens when we die.

It’s my intention now to cast a little more light into the unknown Spiritual realm from a biblical perspective. I will cite scriptures and share how I interpret these with you to know death is not the end. Perhaps you may feel a little lighter too once you have read this article through.

Jesus confirms our soul’s Immortality

37 In the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise

He calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” Luke 20:38

God takes the name of the LIVING Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as his “memorial name” - This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation. Exodus 3:15

In the above verse Jesus teaches the immortality of the soul confirming that the souls of righteous men- Abraham, his son & grandson- are alive in the presence of God.

In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:10

The Spirit of the Prophet Samuel raised by the Medium of Endor

But, for Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah 1 Samuel 28:3

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7

“Consult a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.”

Then the woman asked, “Whom shall I bring up for you?”

“Bring up Samuel,” he said.

The woman said, “I see a ghostly figure coming up out of the earth.”

Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”

And Saul answered, "I am greatly distressed; for the Philistines are waging war against me, and God has departed from me and no longer answers me, either through prophets or by dreams; therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I should do."

Samuel said, The Lord will deliver both Israel and you into the hands of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The Lord will also give the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.”  1 Samuel 28:8-18

The message Samuel gave Saul was completely accurate. How would the Spirit know what was to come? This Scripture confirms that Spirits live and have access to what happens here on Earth with more insight than what is currently available to us today.

Will we ever be able to access knowledge from the Spiritual realm without having to speak with the dead?

If we are visible to them are they or their spirit knowledge visible to us?

Science currently offers us another view:

The discovery of quantum vibrations in 'microtubules' inside brain neurons corroborates theory of consciousness by Stuart Hameroff and Sir Roger Penrose and confirms through science the existence of the soul.

Their theory, called "orchestrated objective reduction" ('Orch OR'), was first put forward in the mid-1990s.

Today "Orch OR is the most rigorous, comprehensive and successfully-tested theory of consciousness ever put forth. From a practical standpoint, treating brain microtubule vibrations could benefit a host of mental, neurological, and cognitive conditions."

In a near-death experience the microtubules lose their quantum state, but the information within them is not destroyed. Or in layman's terms, the soul does not die. Let's say the heart stops beating, the blood stops flowing, the microtubules lose their quantum state," Dr Hameroff said.

"The quantum information within the microtubules is not destroyed, it can't be destroyed, and it just distributes and dissipates to the universe at large.

'If the patient is resuscitated, revived, this quantum information can go back into the microtubules and the patient says "I had a near death experience".'

In the event of the patient's death, it was "possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body indefinitely - as a soul" and it returns to the universe.

So the current scientific evidence supports what is documented in the Bible.

The gap between Science and religion is finally being narrowed now.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

19 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water 1 Peter 3:18-20

But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit. 1 Peter 4:5-6

This verse tells us that the dead live in Spirit and are able to be “preached” to by Jesus so they might be judged according to human ways as human.

Jesus proclaimed to these Spirits. His Proclamation (a public or official announcement, especially one dealing with a matter of great importance) was made to the dead Spirits so they know that he was the Christ and that He came to claim the key of death.

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Revelation 1:18

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil. Hebrews 2:14

Ultimately death is conquered forever and eternal life is won by Jesus. God's plan of redemption is therefore independent of any human action.

9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness Romans 8:9-10

So the question remains where did Jesus go to proclaim to the Spirits that died at the time of Noah i.e. those who died Before Christ (BC)?

Why was Jesus who died much later able to access these spirits from hundreds of years before?

The answer according to Professor Robert Lanza says, lies in quantum physics – specifically the theory of biocentrism.

Professor Lanza says biocentrism is similar to the idea of parallel universes - a concept hypothesised by theoretical physicists explains that the universe only exists because of an individual’s consciousness of it. The concept of death as we know it is “cannot exist in any real sense” as there is no true boundaries by which to define it.

By looking at the universe from a biocentric's point of view, this also means space and time don't behave in the hard and fast ways our consciousness tell us it does. In summary, space and time are 'simply tools of our mind.'

Once this theory about space and time being mental constructs is accepted, it means death and the idea of immortality exist in a world without spatial or linear boundaries.

Jesus raises the daughter of Jairus from the dead

And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.

Luke 8:55

This verse implies the soul exists separately at death and returns to be re-united to the body when it is raised from the dead.

Jesus compares death to sleep- Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. John 11:11

Many of those asleep in the dust of the earth will wake up. —Daniel 12:2.

There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. Acts 24:15.

Yet Jesus does not wait for such a day.

He speaks with the dead Moses (Matthew 17:3); and also raises 3 people from the dead traversing spiritual and physical realms as and when required without fear or hesitation.

Jesus commands his followers to do as he does.

"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely giveMatthew 10:8

Biblical accounts of people raised from the Dead

1. Elijah raised the son of the Zarephath widow from the dead (1 Kings 17:17-22).

2. Elisha raised the son of the Shunammite woman from the dead (2 Kings 4:32-35).

3. A man was raised from the dead when his body touched Elisha’s bones (2 Kings 13:20, 21).

4. Many saints rose from the dead at the resurrection of Jesus (Matt. 27:50-53).

5. Jesus rose from the dead (Matt. 28:5-8; Mark 16:6; Luke 24:5, 6).

6. Jesus raised the son of the widow of Nain from the dead (Luke 7:11-15).

7. Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Luke 8:41, 42, 49-55).

8. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44).

9. Peter raised Dorcas from the dead (Acts 9:36-41).

10. Paul raised Eutychus was from the dead (Acts 20:9, 10).

So there we have it our most advanced Science is beginning to corroborate the Holy Bible. What is the wider implication of knowing that we all have a Soul and an Afterlife?

What is the impact of life that transcends our physical world?

Belief and Science may not yet reveal all the greatest truths and mysteries but it certainly gives much food for thought and how we come to live in a world that is far deeper and richer than our current level of consciousness allows us to perceive.

Do faith Ministers today preach our power over death through Faith speaking life into the Dead?

If not, why not?

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:17

Will a day dawn when death is no more part of our reality?

Your dead will live; their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.

Isaiah 26:19
