My Journal Entries..November 18

The writer in me keeps avoiding these political battles being fought in Jamaica daily but i have this to say.

If the nations children (us) keep turning a blind eye to what is happening in our country our children and our children's children; you know the ones we so dearly love, will have no where to call home. By the time they figure out where we the elders went wrong it will be too late.

We pack their heads with the belief that holding a visitors visa or gaining a green card for another country is enough and when the country seems to be in trouble they can flee. We show no honour and loyalty to our own flag yet we show respect to flags in countries we have no say and conform to the rules and regulations of every other country except our own.

We disregard people whose standard of living is lower than our own and we take those who have worked 4O hours per week for 40 years or more for granted. We ignore what does not affect us and what affects us we make noise for 9days and then it is back to business as usually.

Jamaica will never get better until we as citizens demand better; not for us but for our children. Our ancestors did all they could before their passing and little by little it is breaking away. How many children knows our heritage and not only know of it? There is a difference.

One of my main concern is passing the torch that holds our legacy. Family legacy is very important to children as it sets the basic standard of what is expected from each child from that family. i remember growing up i was well informed about my families legacy. Who were the teachers, nurses etc and what contribution they were making to society. Leave it to the 21st century families, where it is society who is responsible to grow our children. We follow all the trends and feed our children with them, not for their good but so that they do not feel "left out".

My children have all the gadgets they can play with yet i find them playing "money foot ball" with paper and coins and they are having fun, its their choice. Society dictates the songs, the clothing and the attitude and in return we are experiencing lack of respect from them and they are running around senseless since they have no idea where they are from and where they are heading. WE are too lazy to grow our own children, stop letting technology and society grow your kids.

As i pen my more in depth thoughts about my country in my journal i stopped and got lost in my own thoughts; my conclusion Politics is not to be blamed, it is the citizens of the country who are to be blamed.

continues to write....

feeling concerned.
