Oil Of Joy

Oil Of Joy

Jesus was a true living Spiritual Master, directing divine love energy to change matter - healing the sick and raising the dead, restoring complete healing on every level.

What is lesser known and celebrated is the healing gifts Jesus received from others.

I would like to delve more deeply into this healing and comfort documented of Scripture, specifically to examine the use of oils in the Bible.

Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over Psalm 23:5

Oils given to Jesus

At Birth:

Matthew 2:11 - And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

Before crucifixion:

John 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Burial:

John 19:39-40 Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. 40They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom.

From Birth to Burial Jesus was given precious healing oils. The oil was applied by women to give reassurance and comfort; a tangible expression of the love the givers held for Jesus. On both occasions Jesus spoke about the oils doing him good, he received these anointing’s with deep affection and gratitude. The women used the healing power of human touch to comfort Jesus, it’s a deeply personal way of offering emotional support and love to others.

Why has this tradition of giving and applying oils to show affection and love for others died out from our modern Spiritual practices and tradition? It’s directly endorsed by Jesus; he said the gift of precious oils of this woman is to live on as a memorial.

Let us pour out the oils with kindness once again as a sign of our healing love and affection for each other, offering a kindly foot, head or back rub with a healing natural oil to help lift each other up.

How can we bring back this lost healing tradition? Grateful for any ideas of how best to spread the joy of using these biblical oils.
