Well fed and puffy.....
Few years back when I watched the Gladiator, staring Russell Crow and that other guy. I was particularly enthralled, whilst, dismayed at the scene taken in the Colosseum, Rome. Well, the raucous sport spectators in the arena, would vehemently cheered as the lion savagely mauled its human chew toy.
Consequently, this situation got me thinking, that the present state of incivility in our society, is no different to that of the gladiators of ancient Rome. The only difference is that today, we use the battle of words, instead of the clash of swords.
Sometimes, I believe that the vomitus of vitriol is more vicious than if the ad hominem of smear had gotten a sword pierced straight through the heart. Case in point, if you want to be sentenced to social media prison, then just slaughter the English Language, no matter how slight. Hence, then and there in one swift motion, the commenters on Facebook, Twitter and the Huffington Post become your judge, jury and executioner of murder – “Bubble head, before you….go learn to spell”; “first of all, jackass, it’s not you’re but you are”; “ Moron, did you dozed off in the comma class?” ….
