My First REAL Hiking Experience
both mentally and physically. However, since Sunday, June 24, 2012 I think my definition of hiking was scrapped and now these words describe it :- meet friends, endurance, determination, appreciation, sweat, bush, hilly terrain, laughter, fun, jokes, discipline, and I could go on and on. lol
Stokely Rose a well know personal trainer who has trained so many persons in and out of the corporate area sent me an invite to attend the hike and at the last minute I was considering pulling out because 1. I did not have anyone to go with and 2. I needed to buy new sneakers; both of which were pretty flimsy excuses if you asked me now as I look back because if I didn’t go I would have regretted it. So when I told Stokely my lame excuses for not going he asked me what size I wore and by midday 1. he delivered a lovely pair of sneakers reasonable priced too and 2. gave a nice pep talk about stepping out even alone if the need arises so by Sunday morning I was well on my way to a exciting day.
I arrived at VMBS at around 6:45 am and was directed to the registration area to sign up and collect my number from Stokely. I was so terrified when Rese told me she couldn’t make it at the last minute as she was my only hope for company to go on the hike so when I arrived as I was way out of my comfort zone but that was about to change real soon as the journey began to Red Light where the hiking would begin. On my way up I met Kate. She is a Canadian Peace core who had recently moved to the Island three (3) months ago and I later found out she had a online journal about her adventure which I have read and it was pretty cool.
After arriving at the location I met up with a group of ladies that made the day a memorable one. They are Dianne, Novelette, Anneka and Michelle and from the beginning of the journey those ladies ensured that I was good. The journey was difficult for me and despite me stopping to catch my breath several times up the hill these girls never left me behind. They waited and made sure that I never gave up. All along the journey there were several trainers to ensure that you were ok. I workout 5 some time 6 days a week but despite that I still had my many challenges. The view along the path was very relaxing. The water was crystal clear and during the course of the hiking several waterfalls popped up. I must admit that this is the first low cost well organized event I have been to and I will tell you why. For a minimal fee of $2,700.00 there was free water, free energizing drink (if you needed it), an ambulance for the day, count less personal trainers to assist, nurses, food and over all great people so if you ask me you end up with a $7000 package for just under $2,700.00.
I finally made it to the end of the trail with Stokely by my side ensuring that I was ok. They kept the humor going and it lightened the air for me and made the task a lot less lighter so again I must say thank you Stokely Rose for not giving up on me. The final destination was worth it and the river and garden area was beautiful as serene. Rafjams Bed and Breakfast was the begining of another journey for me. i think i found myself there that day. I never knew I had it in me and as was told along the way how good I will feel when I was finish, well it is so true because I still feel so good and its Tuesday lol
So I am not perfect I am human. So I don’t mind telling you I almost died on a hike (lol) but what I can tell you is that I will do it again and again and again as the support system that is there on these hikes are priceless. So I am looking forward to another adventure out there in the OUT BACK and I hope to one day be fit enough to complete the hike without any difficulties. So until then PEACEEEEEE.
2007:-Two years after my second and last child
2009 :- Still looking fab and sexy
2011 :- Like most women I am still clueless as to how I got so heavy. It started out with me finally growing a little butt which felt so good as you can see in 2007 I pretty much looked like a teenager as an adult then I just woke up one day and my skinny Jeans did not fit anymore. I loved that skinny jeans so much. (please read where it all began - The skinny Jeans Journey)
